Hello,
I'm using TP-link TL-WDR3600 router with DD-WRT v3.0-r31924 std (05/02/17). I've noticed lag spikes when playing Overwatch and I narrowed down the cause to read operations from the USB disk (the router's CPU gets quickly to 100% load) I have connected to the router.

Is there a way to remedy this other than going to the stock firmware (under which wi-fi works craptastically)? Maybe some of you know which older DD-WRT version has a better optimised I/O operations?

I'll be grateful for any help.

Just from my observation ext2 don't work worth a crap on that build with the wndr3700v4.
Gets high cpu real quick.
FAT32 seems to work much better.

Thank you for the reply.

I have a 2 TB disk with NTFS connected to the router. FAT32 is not a good choice for me since I use the disk for movie storage and many of the files' size exceeds 4 GB.

Oh, so does that mean I'm destined to have the stock firmware with lousy wi-fi until I buy another router?...Bummer.
