Hi,
I am trying to set up my Alix with dd-wrt for T-Home/VDSL50 and I am having severe problems. I am running the 3-port version of the Alix board, the BIOS is the most recent version and the dd-wrt version I'm trying to install is the 2.4 sp2 (dated 15.4.09).
I succeeded to set up all so that the internet connection works fine (T-Home VDSL 7 Vlan Tagging = On).
What I want to have is a setup where the first port is the WAN port, the second port has the internet connection for my computers with one fixed address and the third port will be connected to my T-Home receiver. I would like to forward specific ports to internal computers, so NAT port forwarding and triggering should work on the second port, too.
First, I have the problem, that the two non-WAN ports are bridged and they should not be bridged for this to work. I can unbridge them, give them each another IP address but then I still have the br0 interface that has the IP address that I entered on the main setup page. There are LAN and WLAN interfaces configured on the setup pages, but I do not have a WLAN interface. Where are these associations done?
One thing I saw and found really strange is that if I change these two ports back to default, they still have the IP addresses I gave them and the bridge is still active that comes in with a third address. I think this is strange. This is even if I turn the unit off and on again.
Another strange thing is that if I set reconnect to a specific time, what should restart the pppd, the internet connection on the WAN interface does not come up again. I have to toggle power. I nearly have to toggle power for all things to happen.
Btw, in the tutorials I found some screenshots detailing VLAN setup where I can set tagging in the GUI. I have not found it in the GUI. I'm using the registered x86 version. Do I use the wrong version?
Could anybody please tell me the details on how to set up dd-wrt so it does what I want?
hope I can help. To truly reset u probably need to go a factory default. Now as far as ip addresses and bridges go, br0 is the default lan bridge I'm not sure if you can remove it. Try using it for one eth interface, build another bridge for your other eth interface, use vlan tagging as youdescribed to get your handoff. you can also try making yourlan br0 gateway that of your wan address. let us know if this helps/hurt we can try something different, and if you can give us some screenshots, that may be helpful
Good luck
Brad
I already tried this and I found out that I have to reset to factory defaults. But I always end up with a strange interface/br setup. I am tired of always trying things and resetting the device. Btw, what is the command to reset to factory defaults on the command line?
I don't think that my desired setup is very specific. So I would like to ask it in another way.
I already set up the PPPoE connection, disabled multicast filtering, set the vlan7 knob on the main setup page and I have internet now (on both ports on the Alix as they are bridged).
Where do I have to plug in the cable from the T-Home receiver and how do I have to set up the dd-wrt to get the receiver to work?
I hope that anybody has it working on the Alix board and I would be happy if he shares his setup with me.

you have to plugin your t-home receiver in the port you configured for multicast forwarding. but now comes the problem. the Deutsche Telekom has now also vlan8 based msiptv streams. we do support this already in newer internal releases. but to get iptv to work you need basicly to enable multicast forwarding on the desired port. to prevent flooding of the whole network you should set this desired port to unbridged with a own network configuration.
consider, i have a alix here on my own vdsl 50 connection which does work good for iptv and internet.
if you create a unbridged interface, dont miss to create a dhcp server for this interface too _________________ one cigarette costs 2 minutes of your life.

first thanks for your answer. Is the VLAN8 thing now Germany-wide? I thought that it is only in certain regions. Is VLAN8 already running in Berlin area?
First, how do I find out if I already need to configure VLAN8, too? Is there a simple way?
I feel that I have no clue on how to set this up. Do you think that it is possible to send me your saved configuration? Say, with username set to root and password set to root and set to 192.268.1.1 and anonimized in a way you believe it is appropriate. I could then just install that config and see how it works.
What I did until now was:
- set the PPPoE username & password
- set to VLAN7 on basic config page
- did _not_ set VLAN8 (vlan7 disappears if I do this)
- set up the IP adress on the basic page
- enabled multicast forwarding on the security page
I did not do any more configuration. So I did not configure any port for multicast forwarding as you stated. I currently do not exactly how to do this. Yes I can use one interface and set it to unbridged and the enable multicast forwarding, but after that what do I have to do? And should I set the other interface to unbridged, too? Or leave it as it is? Should I set the dhcp server on the iptv interface?
Do you think that it is possible to send me a basic configuration copy of yours? That would be a really great point to start.
EDIT: Let me call it some sort of generic Alix base configuration. Maybe it could be of interest for others struggling with the configuration of the Alix, too.
I am not sure, normally I do not have these problems with configuring networking devices and firewalls. I think I'm missing an important link to understanding what's going on inside dd-wrt. And each time I configure something I knock myself out
I have alix board with 2 LAN ports and since few days IPTV. Behind the router is one netgear 8 port switch with 2 computers, VOIP phone, SAT receiver, STB and one printer connected.
Everything is working good, but multicast is killing my wireless network, so I can't surf with my laptop or win mobile device while watching TV
I can unbridge ath0 and set it to another subnet, but then I loose file and printer sharing in my workgroup
I have tried to block multicast only on wireless using iptables, but no luck until now.
Can it be managed on this board, or I should look for a 3 port alix?
why should 1 additional port work better?
u r already on the right way with iptables _________________ Forum Guidelines...How to get help

well I dont say it would work better, but I think I would know how to configure it. I would unbridge one port (IPTV one) and filter multicast for the rest of the bridge. this I could do using WEB interface, no need for iptables.
I would prefer staying with this board then buying another one, but I need a help with iptables
