I followed fosloss instructions and was able to get D-Link to work as a repeater on the first try. I did not do 30/30/30 hard rest though, I powered the router off and on while holding the reset button.

Same situation, I have a DIR-601 trying to set it up as a Repeater Bridge with no success.

fosloss's instructions worked great in turning my DIR-601 into a repeater, but yes, the two routers are on separate subnets. =( I can't find a way around that.

The actual repeating of the WAN connection works great though! Thanks a lot!

Finally figured out what the problem was. The issue is with the firmware version that is suggested in the initial flashing instructions found here:

http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/DIR-601

The link to download the firmware is from early 2011. There is newer firmware that can be found here:

ftp://dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2012/03-08-12-r18767/dlink-dir601a1/

From the link above you can see that I used build 18767. As of this writing there is a newer version.

If you already have DD-WRT installed use the dir601a1-firmware.bin file for flashing. Then do a 30/30/30 reset.

Then follow the instructions in the link below to configure Client_Bridged mode:

http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Client_Bridged

Worked like a charm! You should see the green LED for wireless light up when it connects to your wireless network. If the client bridged mode is not working it is most likely an issue with the firmware.

I was also able to get Client Bridge Mode working on my DIR-601 A1 with the latest build 03-19-12-r18777, found at

ftp://dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2012/03-19-12-r18777/dlink-dir601a1/

using the information at

http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Client_Bridged

All of the LEDs appear operational and I now have all of my systems on the same subnet! The DIR-601 A1 is located at 192.168.1.200.

Unfortunately, a new issue has developed.

When plugged into the DIR-601 A1, my desktop (192.168.1.2) is not able to connect to my HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus in wireless mode (192.168.1.4).

I would prefer to keep the HP 8600 Plus as a wireless connection, rather than USB or Ethernet. I am able to ping the printer fine, but HP's drivers can't find it, so something is being blocked.

If I plug my ethernet back into my older Netgear WGPS606 Wireless-G wireless switch (192.168.1.102), I am able to access it perfectly. I would like to have all of my systems on Wireless-N and retire the WGPS606.

Also, the HP 8600 Plus has the latest firmware installed, version CLP1CN1150CR.

The main router is a Verizon FIOS supplied Actiontec Wireless-N modem/router at 192.168.1.1.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I wish I had seen the above post ^ sooner.

I have been running dd-wrt on my llinksys wrt54g for years now. Love it! I was able to create a wireless bridge to connect my xbox and bluray player to the network with no problems.

But with the d-link dir 601 a1 it's a different story. Whenever I try to create a client bridge with this firmware version "ftp://dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2011/02-17-11-r16214/dlink-dir601a1/dir601a1-factory-to-ddwrt-firmware.bin" I couldn't do it. It could see my other router but each time I tried to join the network via site survey they wouldn't connect.

I gave up after a long night of re-configuring and re-flashing.

I decided to try Openwrt. It work the first time. Took me about 30 minutes altogether.

You can find all you need here:
https://openwrt.org/
http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/d-link/dir-600

Having said that.. if I know there was a new firmware for the d-link dir 601 I would have tried that before resorting to OpenWrt
