Flash the firmware for WZR-900DHP and solve the weak signal
WZR-900DHP 刷机 固件更新 dd-wrt 信号弱 解决教程
The words about are to make the search engine can get the key words in Chinese.

[Background]
There are few topics about how to flash the WZR-900DHP into dd-wrt firmware, even you know how to flash into dd-wrt, there is a problem the Wi-Fi signal is very weak.

[Purpose]
I collect all the methods to solve the problems above, and make the manual easier to understand and may cost you less time to do it.
Actually, I didn’t make out the method by myself.
Thanks to wad2012 who solved the firmware flash problem;
Thanks to qinlejun who solved the weak Wi-Fi signal;
Thanks to Busmaster who tell us how to clear the NVRAM.

[Manual content]
Preparation:
a. Search WZR-900DHP, you can find the firmware “buffalo-wzr-900dhp-webflash.bin”
http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database
b. Download the firmware build 23709b version of WZR-600DHP2D in US official website
http://www.buffalotech.com/products/wireless/open-source-dd-wrt/airstation-n600-dd-wrt-router
c. Download the firmware 2.13 version of WZR-900DHP in EU official website
http://www.buffalo-technology.com/en/products/network-devices/dual-band-n/routers/wzr-900dhp-eu-airstationtm-wireless-router-dual-band/

1.Flash the dd-wrt firmware
1.1 Downgrade the original firmware
Open the 192.168.11.1 in your IE or Chrome, don’t use Firefox.
Username: admin
Password: password

Find the “管理設定”,then “更新”, then”自動更新”,then“更新實行”。
After that, choose the V1.0, waitting for reboot. Close your brower.

1.2 Enable the telnet and flash the dd-wrt
Open the 192.168.11.1 in your IE or Chrome, don’t use Firefox.
Username: bufpy
Password: otdpopypassword
Click the 3rd link, and enable the telnet;
Then click the 4th link, you can update with dd-wrt firmware “buffalo-wzr-900dhp-webflash.bin” now.

2.Solve the weak Wi-Fi signal
If you find the Wi-Fi signal is very weak now, do the next steps.

2.1 Open the 192.168.1.1 in your IE or Chrome, don’t use Firefox.
Username: admin
Password: password
You can flash the “ build 23709b version of WZR-600DHP2D” now in the advance tap, because your router firmware is dd-wrt.

2.2 After reboot, please open the 192.168.11.1 in your IE or Chrome, don’t use Firefox.
Username: bufpy
Password: otdpopypassword
If you see the English GUI and the left up corner you can see the red Buffalo logo, its right. And enable the telnet again(see 1.2) and flash the “firmware 2.13 version of WZR-900DHP in EU”.

(If still the dd-wrt firmware and can’t see the Buffalog logo, you should do the step 2.1 again.
Or even the Japanese GUI again, I think you should do all the steps from 1st above again.)

2.3 After reboot, please open the 192.168.11.1 in your IE or Chrome, don’t use Firefox.
Username: bufpy
Password: otdpopypassword

2.4 Please reset the Airstation the enable the telnet,
(Advanced Settings => Admin => System => /cgi-bin/cgi?req=frm&frm=py-db/55debug.html)
input the command in the input field and commit:
nvram set boot_wait=on
input the command below and commit again:
nvram commit

2.5 Power down the router
2.6 Set computer IP address to something from 192.168.1.0/24 range (e.g. 192.168.1.2 mask 255.255.255.0)
2.7 Input the http://192.168.1.1 into the browser, and power up the router, then after 5-15 seconds, you will see the minCFE web server.

All done, the router must be OK now.

Installing firmware '23709b version of WZR-600DHP2D' from dd-wrt build 24800 did not worked for me. But flashing the 23709b build via (CFE) serial connection worked.

I used this command:
flash -noheader : nflash1.trx
(you'll need an additional TFTP server for this to work, search the dd-wrt website for more information about this)

With 23709b installed i was then able to flash the official firmware 2.13.

I applied the steps under 2.4 to 2.6, but the wifi signal is still low. I additionally did a nvram erase, factory reset, reset via button. Nothing.

Hi folks!
I'd like to ask about this problem.
Has anyone solved it?
Are there any confirmed solutions to fix it?

I confirm the method above IS working, but with some changes.

1. In step 2.6, I use 192.168.1.7
2. Need to click "Erase NVRAM" after seeing the minCFE web server

Side effect: Upgraded to 2.15 official firmware

Just get back from ddwrt. Using the latest ddwrt released by 2005/05/07. The router is AsiaPacific TW, firmare version 1.12 0.01. The wifi signal under ddwrt is still low. Revert to 2.13 EU stock firmware and using miniCFE server to erase the nvram. Everything's fine currently.

The difference between above discussion,
1. After the flash of WZR-600HP2D PRO. firmware, it was always showed update fail on both 2.13-EU/2.15-EU. Problem solved by 30/30/30 reset.

2. The command to set the miniCFE server to wait during the boot up as below,
nvram get boot set wait=on
nvram commit

and miniCFE web server was located on 192.168.11.1, so I specified my PC to 192.168.11.2

Hope this can help, if someone would like to revert to stock firmware for fixing up the wifi signal problem.

Any good news with v3 build 37305? Any ones face against wifi issue (low signal) with the latest build?

Just tested. Weak wifi signal again.
Lucky that after flash v24-SP2 firmware r30357 for the WZR-600DHP2D over DDWRT blue version, Broadcom mini web server appear and I can refresh NVRAM and flash it back to stock firmware.

Try the correct forum. WZR-900DHP is a Broadcom, not PPC based hardware.
