I think a lot of ppl missed the the title of this thread. Version 8.1 of the Linksys WRT54G is different from the rest of the version routers. Anyway I got this working on my version 8.1 Cool So far so good.

Hey all,
I succesfully flashed a v8.1 with dd-wrt v24 rc-5 but couldn’t get an IP in client bridge from a WRV54g.

Decided to install the v23 sp2 as I know that works on the system – OOPs!

Now I get no power light and no ping. Tried the variuos methods of accessing the router but no luck.

Is there anything I can do short of Jtagging it? And if not, can the router BE Jtagged?

Thanks,
lapaz

@Sash,

The 8.2 has a BSP VxWorks bootloader, not a CFE

As far as I know you can jtag a version 8.1, just hook it up like any of the other G v8's...let me know if you have problems

Does have jtag on board correct ?

I haven't opened it yet. Do you have a link to the jtag pinout diagram and walkthrough?

Thanx for the help.

OK just so I have all this clear.

From a fresh WRT54G V8.1. I reset the unit holding the reset and powerup the unit with the poer plug. The I upgrade the bin through the linksys web gui firmware upgrade page with bin "dd-wrt.v24-9330_micro_wrt54gv81.bin" then after the reboot, login to the router and go to the admin dd-wrt firmware update page and finally flash the bin " dd-wrt.v24-9330_micro.bin".

Download
Filename: dd-wrt.v24-9330_micro.bin
Filesize: 1.63 MB
Downloaded: 8840 Time(s)
dd-wrt.v24-9330_micro_wrt54gv81.bin
Description:

Download
Filename: dd-wrt.v24-9330_micro_wrt54gv81.bin
Filesize: 1.63 MB
Downloaded: 6194 Time(s)

-----------------------------------------------------

No need to do any vxkill bin upgrade first.

Is this correct?

Hello,

I would like to remove DD-WRT and go back to my old firmware. As much as I love DD-WRT and its feature packedness, I have noticed that my 8.1 keeps on disconnecting / has a lot of instability. Is there any way to revert to the stock firmware? I have tried using the linksys tftp tool and tried updating the firmware. The program apparently said it went through, but when I logged on into webauth, it gives me the dd-wrt screen.

I have tried "upgrade firmware" from the webauth screen, but every time I try, it gives me a Upgrade Failed! error.
