i have successfully, and *painlessly* setup my linksys wrt54gv8 as a repeater! (without even dealing with WDS management--simply by setting it's mode to "Repeater" (and just below that option making another virtual essid--so I guess it's not really a repeater--but does the main trick) ;b)
