WRT54 Serial USB

As an alternative to the MAX232 based serial interface option for the console, one can use a 'Breakout Board for FT232RL USB to Serial'. It converts the TTL-level serial port signals directly to an USB device, skipping the RS232 voltage levels. This device is recognised by all modern operating systems as a serial port. Nowadays USB ports are more common than real RS232 ports.

I use such a board as console interface for a whole collection of 'small boxes'. I have this one: http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=718 but there are many similar boards. The board can be small enough to build it inside the router.
