Based on current information it appears we can upgrade the flash to 16MB and the RAM to 128MB anyone tried this yet? Would be interested in turning this router into a nice home server for some tasks.
This would require de-soldering and dumping the current firmware and then adding the new chips and adding the correct Uboot would be interested to know if anyone has given it a shot.
Ram datasheet attached looks like standard
200Mhz DDR400
5 : 200MHz @CL3-3-3
4 BANKS X 4Mbit X 16 (164)
Flash datasheet attached
S25FL064A; www.DataSheet4U.com S25FL064A 64 Megabit CMOS 3.0 Volt Flash Memory with 50MHz SPI (Serial Peripher.
I would like to go with hynix ram (2x64MB) and spansion flash ( 1x 16) does anyone have any chip recommendations?

16MB flash being considered FL128PIF , W25Q128JVFIQ or MX25L12845EWI-10G 16MB SOIC 16pins, I suspect even 128MB SOIC should work.. in theory may need to change Uboot and calibration data to the Netgear WNDR3700 to allow for the higher flash densities, still looking into it for ram lots to choose from. Let me know if anyone has attempted this, also ram presently didnt see any hynix ones except H5DU5162ETR ( not avail presently) but did see this EM6AB160TSE-5G 200MHz 400Mbps/pin TSOPII available which seems to be similar clock as the original chips with the 32x16 = 512Megabits.
RAM chips:
Hynix-H5DU5162ETR-E3C and HY5DU121622CTP-D43
Flash Chip trying :
16MB FL128PIF
16MB, MT25QL128
128MB is MT25QL01GB ( no economic source)
there is a winbond one on the main arrow and mouser sites which is soic 16 W25N01GVSFIG but it gets pricy to ship a 3 dollar chip atm, Will look for better sources for the 128MB flash.
In theory 128MB flash + 128MB ram would be fine on the dir-825 B1,b2
