MERRY Christmas... no need for quick reply..family first.
re wrt1900ac v1 --(fyi found MIS-marked at SAM's 2 wks ago for $99!!)
I have gone over much data and threads on this subject and i see a need for some clarification.
1) so the need for hard (30/30/30/) resetting before and after is no longer valid? does this mean no kinds of resets?
2) I understand that it is best to downgrade to version 1.1.8 before you flash. but I cannot find that version online anywhere. (sorry if I just missed the tread explaining this one). I did read somewhere that the dd-wrt to factory is NOT recommended for this procedure, but failed to see where one could get that earlier version.
3) I am still struggling with the kong vs BS builds but I understand the testing differences. Could anyone confirm one over the other for USB-NAS storage benefits? I am aware of the limits and am not ready to invest in a real NAS yet.
4) last.. the best version per one thread is ...
BS 10-06-2016-r30731 .. is that still valid on the BS side? any best of's .. for the kong version?

That is still the version that I am running and that I recommend for the v1. Mine has been running flawlessly for 53 days now since it was last booted. I have not tried the very latest BS with the new WiFi driver, but previous BS versions since r30731 have included a nasty WiFi channel selection bug.

I have not run Kong since last June due to the way he chose to implement DFS, resulting in unwanted channel hopping on the upper bands. I have no idea whether, or not, this is still an issue with Kong builds.

Yes you must downgrade stock below 1.1.10.* prior to running the factory_to_ddwrt IMG file. I know it works from stock 1.1.8.*

Down grading the Linksys firmware seems to be needed by some and not by others. My wrt1900ac v1 is running the latest firmware and I have no issues instaling Kong's, BS's or Openwrt/LEDE builds on it.
