There was a time that JFFS2 was used because of no USB ports installed on routers. The Wiki probably needs a little bit of rewording so people don't get confused.

That note was referring to the previously included ipkg binary which no longer exists, it has *NOTHING* to do with JFFS2 vs Entware.

I used to stumble upon this quagmire and I almost gave up because I was unable to relate the outdated instructions to the current firmware & hardware.
