Before installing DD-WRT, does router have a shutdown button? Not talking about an ON-OFF switch, but a power button like a PC!

Most cheap routers don't even have an ON-OFF button, just a DC plug! You can use the ON-OFF button on an extension socket instead.

That's likely an ON-OFF button, not Soft-Off switch as in PC and notebooks. I doubt any networking equipments got one. Smile

apart of reboot command and echo b > /proc/sysrq-trigger to force reboot..
use the button...or power switch..
the last 2 can leave some dirty data on usb so...its vital to stop usb service's and unmout that partition Razz

Soft-off still consumers electricity, so think about the bills and the fire risk. Also, eavesdropping devices can still funciton over wifi without your knowing. Smile

I have often wished we had a shutdown command. Not sure if the hardware would support it however and we would still most likely have to toggle the power switch to boot it back up.

Kinda like a Raspberry Pi. While the shutdown command works fine, wake on LAN doesn't. So a power cycle is required to boot it back up.

The applet(s) is(are available) in busybox, "halt, poweroff, reboot".

https://git.busybox.net/busybox/tree/init/halt.c

Whether or not they work in DD-WRT is the question. I know FreshTomato can do a shutdown, but you have to manually power cycle to reboot.

FYI:
https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=328242

Back then, it did shutdown the router somewhat.
After a reboot I had to do configuration again.
