Hello Madman999,

From my little experience ddwrt (january releases up to r29059) comes with his own MAC addres but it is still a beta firmware
CFE doesn' break mac address, you can always change it with "nvram ..." but ddwrt doesn't read it today

That's all for my point of view

Cheers

I would like some assistance choosing a firmware to flash. I've read through this entire thread and I'm a bit confused.

If I read all of this right the firmware option I should choose is 29085 from 2/15? Everything before that and after that will erase my mac address and make it so that I can't revert back to stock using tftp correctly, right?

When I flash DD-WRT:
*I should revert back to stock 150122 firmware version.
*Do a 30/30/30 reset.
*Disable Wi-Fi
*Flash factory-to-ddwrt.bin
*Do a 30/30/30 reset.
*Setup DD-WRT

Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.

I just wanted to chime in to say that after reading this entire thread from start to finish over the past few days, I followed this exact path for flashing from a newly purchased Archer C9 v1 this evening. No surprises, and everything that I typically use seems to be working well.

Only one surprise, and it isn't really a problem for my circumstances: Although I am able to fully realize the 105Mbps connection from Comcast on the WAN via wired clients, d/s throughput seems to max-out around 50Mbps on the 2.4GHz radio. On the 5GHz radio I get a quick spike near to the expected 105Mbps, but then speedtest.net's app settles in around 80 Mbps and stays put. This is testing from an LG G3 phone about 10 feet away from the router. Does this sound typical? I'm in a rural location with no competition from other wifi networks. Any channel settings I should be playing with? Other thoughts to improve throughput on either radio?

Thanks all for the great information and trail-blazing that has come before me. If I can test anything for anyone please reply to this thread, as I'll be subscribing to keep aware of updated info!

I followed the instructions I worked out from this thread and posted earlier. Everything seems to be working perfectly. However, my mac addresses did change. They start with 00:90:4c now.

As far as speed goes, I'm getting a solid 144 MB connection on 2.4 ghz and a solid 866 MB on 5 ghz. My transfer speeds to/from the pc are as high as with stock on 5 ghz channel. 244 Mbit up and 209 Mbit down from 10 feet. I haven't tested the 2.4ghz. I'm only running a 30 Mbit Wan connection but it seems to be working well. Speedtest.Net shows 23 Mbps which is normal. The usb transfer speeds seem comparable. In the past, I had much slower speeds with Dd-wrt. I'm impressed.

I haven't found any issues yet. Mostly upgraded for better parental controls.

Hello, I have DD-WRT v3.0-r28444 std (12/05/15), C9 ver. 1. When trying to upload the newest version, web interface just die, can not access it but router itself still works. Back again after restart.

hello, i have the C9 v1, and i am ready to flash ddwrt. but i have 2 questions that i am not sure 100% what the answer to them is yet.

1) i want to flash AND keep my MAC, and according to "a1smith" i can use any build after 1/25/16, am i correct?

if i am correct then

2) is there any specific build after 1/25/16 that i should use, is there one that is most stable? i have zero experience and i dont know if i will be able to revert so i dont really want to brick it.

thank you.

The 2/15 version is working fine for you? I would like to upgrade from an old version of dd-wrt to a newer one, I can just upgrade the new firmware directly from the web interface right? (after 30/30/30 reset fo course). And by the way? I would like to know for what reason it could be interesting to have the original mac address in the router? Thanks for sharing your experience.
